Since 2013, Steer has been working with New York City in planning the routes, fares and operating schedules of its New York City Ferry system. Steer has developed the analysis and strategic planning inputs that saw the system go from a single route to its current six routes, with two additional routes planned for 2021.
While weekday ridership on the system averages 23,500 in the Summer, the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted the ferries, with ridership currently reduced by over 90%.
Our work for New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), who are responsible for the service, has included work on route optimization, which has been an essential input into NYCEDC’s planning for service adjustments through the current challenging period.
Steer is proud to have helped the City of New York maintain essential ferry service through what is arguably its most challenging budgetary crisis.
The solid analysis Steer and NYCEDC did together enabled us to make sensible and strategic service changes. Thanks for your help!
