In 2012, West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) successfully used our Urban Dynamic Model (UDM) to win £1bn funding for its Transport Investment Fund, designed to boost the West Yorkshire economy by improving connectivity between employers and their workforce, customers and suppliers.
That model encompassed the five Districts of West Yorkshire. An expanded model was then commissioned to provide a single unified tool to design and test proposals across the ten districts of Leeds City Region.
Steer built the new model, adapting and extending the functionality of the existing UDM. It was calibrated, and a series of validation tests run, all fully documented.
Once we handed the model over to WYCA, staff were then trained on how to use it. It is now in regular use within WYCA to test new transport proposals in the City Region. Steer continues to provide support and periodic model upgrades.
