New York’s first citywide ferry service, NYC Ferry, will be launching on May 1, 2017, one month ahead of schedule. To celebrate the arrival of the first three of 20 new vessels, Mayor Bill de Blasio took an inaugural ride aboard one of the new ferries and held a dedication ceremony at Pier 1 in Brooklyn on the morning of April 17.
The NYC Ferry service will launch on the new Rockaway route, which joins the existing East River route. Two other routes will open later this year with an additional two opening in 2018, completing the system.
Steer Davies Gleave worked closely with New York City to guide the expansion of the East River Ferry service. Our role included identifying the best new stops that would comprise the expanded service, as well as determining optimal routing and schedule.
The team also worked with the City in determining a new fare structure, and our recommendations are reflected in the new, lower fare structure.
Steer Davies Gleave is proud that its recommendations are now being implemented with the ongoing doubling of the system’s reach, and share in the excitement being expressed in New York City!
